Finn can now grab his own toes. This is first of all very cute, but it also enables us to play a game I like to call "put-socks-on-take-socks-off-put-socks-on-take-socks-off-put-socks-on-take-socks-off-fine-just-have-cold-feet-then".
He really is pretty cute when he does it though.
Other people have been saying things like"he is so cute!" and my first instinct is to think that they are not telling the truth. Why? Because I have been guilty of saying that about babies I knew were not cute. What else are you supposed to say? And if you are reading this, let me assure you that of course YOUR babies are all cute. I was talking about someone else's babies.
And then I wonder, when people say that Finn is cute, are they just saying that because they are my family/friend/salesperson/coworker/vendor rep?
So here I am, not really trusting anyone's assessment of the cuteness of my baby, and realizing that my own judgment is entirely biased, and wondering, how does anyone ever really know if their baby is actually cute or if people are just being polite? But I think I've found an unbiased opinion.
I was leaving work late the other night and the cleaning people had arrived. One of the cleaning ladies stopped me as I was leaving and said "Are you Sara?" (she isn't psychic; there are family pictures in my office, but when the cleaning person stops you it usually means they are going to ask you to please empty out your starbucks cup before putting it in your wastebasket, or something like that) So I said "yes," waiting for her to tell me to make sure all the pistachio shells get into the trash can or something, and she said, "your baby is so cute! I just wanted to let you know."
That's the most unbiased opinion I've come across so far. So, the rest of you can now express your opinion in confidence that it has been verified by an impartial third party.
